FAQ's
Are all EV chargers universally useable?
There are 3 categorisation levels relating to charging speeds. Level 1, 2 and 3. Each level has a unique connector type that are designed for AC or DC charging.

Most UK chargers will have either a type 1 inlet socket (120v AC) or a type 2 inlet socket (240v AC). Both these plug types are using AC charging and relate to level 1 and level 2 speed charging.

Alternatively, there is DC (Direct Current) or fast charging which is not typically compatible, as this will relate to level 3 charging (fast) and would require a specific car brand plug.

Nearly all EV charging points have a type 2 inlet (7-pin connectors) as standard and can be seen on public points too.
Can EV chargers be integrated with a solar PV system?
Yes, if you've an existing solar PV system or are having a system installed at the same time, you will be able to charge your EV with the solar PV. However, you would need a solar compatible EV charger such as the "Zappi" charge point. When there is surplus generated electricity, then your EV charger will be able to use this excess to charge the car and in some instances charge for very little or even free at different times.
Can I install a 22kWh EV point at domestic property?
The majority of domestic properties in the UK will have a single phase supply (AC), and therefore the maximum rate that you will be able to charge your vehicle is 7kWh.

However, some properties can have a three phase supply which means you can install a 22kWh EV charger and you would benefit from faster charging. Typically, a 7kWh charger will take between 7-8hrs to charge depending on the car battery size and a 22kWh charger will take 3.5-5 hours. Commercial spaces tend to have a 3 phase supply as more power is coming into the buildings.
What is a Smart EV charger?
This is when a charge point is connected and operated through the internet. You as the customer will have access to the data via an app or remote monitoring system. You will able to benefit from utilising the off-peak tariffs and other renewable sources. There is a lot more control for the end user.
